Basic Rifle

This course is a multi-day course with a minimum of 14 hours for certification. The Basic Rifle Course is for inexperienced, novice, and beginner level shooters; the course length will vary depending on the class size and the participants’ abilities to learn and shoot. This course builds the foundation for all new shooters and is the building block for more advanced rifle training.

Course Goal:
To teach the basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

Course Outline:
Lesson I: Rifle Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
Lesson II: Ammunition knowledge and the Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting
Lesson III: Firing the First Shot
Lesson IV: Standing Shooting Positions
Lesson V: Prone and kneeling Rifle Shooting Positions
Lesson VI: Sitting Rifle Shooting Positions and Review of Positions
Lesson VII: Rifle Sports and Activities

Students are required to provide:
A rifle that they are comfortable with, a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection, as well as pen or pencil with paper to take notes.

* If you do not have your own rifle and you are using this course to learn the firearm prior to buying one, Teaching Defense will provide one for you. Let us know at the time of registration so we can reserve a rifle for your class. *

All course materials, range time, and targets will be provided by Teaching Defense.

Basic Rifle Course is a pre-register class and a non-refundable fee of 50 dollars is due prior to the course date.
