Introduction to the Handgun


Introduction to the Handgun is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation for modern day handguns. This course is for beginner level shooters and is approximately 8 hours in length. This course will include classroom and range time that will teach you how to shoot and manipulate a handgun safely. The duration of the class will depend on the participant’s abilities to learn and comprehend the material being covered.

Course goal:
To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to own and safely use a handgun.

Course Outline:
Lesson I: Safe Gun Handling
Lesson II: Handgun Parts and Operation
Lesson III: Ammunition Fundamentals
Lesson IV: Basic Shooting Fundamentals
Lesson V: Shooting the Handgun
Lesson VI: Cleaning and Safe Storage

Students are required to bring:
A handgun at least .38 caliber or larger with two magazines, a minimum of 250 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection, gun owners manual, handgun cleaning gear as well as pen or pencil with paper to take notes.

* If you do not have your own a handgun and you are using this course to learn the firearm prior to buying one, Teaching Defense will provide one for you. Let us know at the time of registration so we can reserve a handgun for your class. *

All course materials, range time, and targets will be provided by Teaching Defense.

Introduction to the Handgun is a pre-register class and payment is due prior to the course date.
