Introduction to the Shotgun


Introduction to the Shotgun is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation for the modern day defensive shotgun. This course is for beginner level shooters and is approximately 8 hours in length. This course will include classroom and range time that will teach you how to shoot and manipulate a shotgun safely. The duration of the class will depend on the participant’s abilities to learn and comprehend the material being covered.

Course goal:
To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to own and safely use a shotgun.

Course Outline:
Lesson I: Safe Gun Handling
Lesson II: Shotgun Parts and Operation
Lesson III: Ammunition Fundamentals
Lesson IV: Shotgun Shooting Fundamentals
Lesson V: Patterning Your Shotgun
Lesson VI: Cleaning and Safe Storage

Students are required to bring:
A pump or semi-auto shotgun, a minimum of 100 rounds of birdshot, 15 rounds of #00 Buck, 10 slugs, hearing and eye protection, as well as pen or pencil with paper to take notes.

* If you do not have your own a shotgun and you are using this course to learn the firearm prior to buying one, Teaching Defense will provide one for you. Let us know at the time of registration so we can reserve a shotgun for your class. *

All course materials, range time, and targets will be provided by Teaching Defense.

Introduction to the Shotgun is a pre-register class and a non-refundable fee of 50 dollars is due prior to the course date.
